Edirol R1 Internal mic vs. Marantz 660

Thank-you Charles for your intelligent and thorough analysis of the Edirol. After searching forever for a very portable solid state digital recorder that could record stereo at CD quality, it seems that there are now(at last!) two viable choices - The Edirol and Marantz 660. The xlr inputs on the 660 are obviously preferable to the mini jack but I need a recorder that will allow for good recordings of rehearsals and performances on the fly, sometimes without a external mic. Any thoughts/experiences about the internal mic situation on either of these machines? Charles, have you played with the 660 yet?
