exactly a replacement because one broke, but an "upgrade" for the on/off capability. Can we take one room/issue at a time?

Sorry - but since I do not know what you know, I ask what can be, to you, silly questions.

So, here is the next one... Does it have to be a camcorder? Is the video that is fed to the TV recorded?

And last, is HDMI a requirement? Does the 52 inch LCD monitor have component (RGB) or analog (composite) inputs?

They way you currently use what you have - the zoom must be pretty limited since whatever it is that is being zoomed in on must be in a very specific area in order for the camcorder to see it when zoomed in.

So far, I am not aware of any consumer-grade camcorder that meets your requirements (and that has the camcorders priced from $100 to $8,000). Since we're at this point, what is your budget? The closest I can get you is some sort of pan-tilt-zoom security camera or one of the remote-controlled studio cameras that some might use. How they would connect to the monitor depends on which direction you choose. The wireless remote will be challenging.
