Hi, You have maybe answered your own question by stating that " it's time to move on ". Go for it, and get an SLR. As good as your present camera may be, it's not going to have the same quality as a camera with dedicated lens. SLR lens are of a better quality, and there are a great many available, by trusted makers, to fit all types of camera body. A Pentax body with Tamron lens, for example, needn't be very expensive, but the results can be outstanding.
Make the change to SLR, and in six months time, and with the extra knowledge that you gain, compare the results of your efforts with the equipment you are using today, and prepare to be amazed.
