Let's say your LAN IP is the usual 192.168.1.x number. A VPN to the work network is "just like" you plugging your computer in a work. It's too likely your work address scheme is 192.168.1.x and as soon as you VPN in the error will pop up.
Nothing busted (except the IT staff?)
