My DVD player works with both plus and minus.

There are some players that are picky but you won't know without trying or looking at the player's specifications.

DVDRW (either plus or minus) is usually a little less compatible with more players. If you must be sure of compatibility make both the DVD+R and DVD-R media so the person who gets the content can play which works for their player.
