What motherboard model do you have?
If you look in your motherboard manual, you should see something about SATA settings that make a connected SATA device a removable or "hot-swappable" device--just like USB devices.
This is valuable if you wish to install an external eSATA/SATA bracket in your case for attaching external hard drives.
