I'm nodding to UBUNTU.

If that fails, it's a hardware issue. And before you think that connecting to your network is proof it's OK, it can be as simple as the old WiFi card has degraded and can't connect over the longer distance.

It's very expensive to figure that out at the shop so I continue to warn folk about this.
