DVD Photo Show software
I can tell you from experience the "free" software from Microsoft entitled PhotoStory 3 is the best that I have tried bar none! for Windows XP.
In order to burn a DVD for TV viewing you need to go on line & buy the Roxio Plug-in for $19.95. I did. I downloaded it. It worked flawlessley. We took an European River Cruise - Basal, Switzerland all the way to Vienna, Austria. I took just shy of 600 digital photos and using the Windows PhotoStory 3 program I made a perfect photo show with background music (I used Mozart & Strauss (both a huge European gem) disks and used some of that music for background. My show of these all photos was done on two discs. Program let me adjust background music so I could creat (my) voice over to describe each and every photo. Terrific in every way. I have since made copies and sent them to friends. You can crop any photo, you can move any photo to any place in the show desired, insert typed captions rather the voice-over, make motions, effects, and transitions.
I have a VISTA machine and while it will utilize the PhotoStory 3 software just as well as my XP system did it will not accept the Roxio Plug-in. I wrote to Microsoft advising them of this emphasizing this and told them ouright they were missing out on one tremendous advantage they would have if the arrainged to have the Plug-in compatible with VISTA. Their reply was "it has been sent upward to management for resolution. I have not heard any more - of course it takes time.
But...PhotoStory 3 price-wise, ease of use, and reliability is unbeatable in my opinion. It gave me what I wanted 100% of the time & I went back & forth photo to photo many times in creating the shows. The panning, features etc - simply great!
Incidentally, I wrote Roxio as well inquiring about a Plug-in for VISTA - NO DICE.
