I'm surprised that nobody remarked on the very firm line

being taken by the Provincial Government regarding the behaviour of the students. That they were expelled from negotiations for the behaviour of the demonstrator/rioters the previous night. Additionally, it wasn't as if the students were allowed to blow off steam as if that might calm them down. Instead 85 were arrested.

Now I do take issue with characterizing this as an entitlement situation. The Provincial Government, which had not been well managed by Jean Charest had run into financial difficulties and decided to pass some of the costs along to the students. There were Student Representatives called CLASSE (a French acronym) at the talks who were attempting to represent their side of the issue. Those students were not saying, we deserve to have our education paid entirely by the government, nor were they talking about a roll back, they were calling into question the apportioning of discomfort, i.e. that the students were getting gouged. It was the several thousand who acted badly out in the streets, rather than the Student Representatives who were the cause of the problem. Quebec has a tradition of tough demonstrations.

Rob.

BTW Canada's deficit is 14.5 Billion dollars each of them worth 1 cent more than the US dollar. Wouldn't it be nice if the US deficit was 145 Billion?

Harper's government meanwhile is in deep trouble over concealing costs in the purchase of the F-35, and for hiding the fact that the contract was signed 4 years earlier than was revealed, and without the agreement of Parliament. With luck we could see some people in jail for this sort of behaviour.
