I found out years ago to not leave my sole copy on read/write dvd or even to attempt to edit files on such media.

While the software that makes this happen does it best to "wear level" and more, one glitch and the contents do very odd things or just vanish. This is why I would edit my content on the normal HDD then copy it to my DVDRW at the end of the day for safety.
