I have a Dell Inspiron 530, running Vista Home Premium. InstallIQ must have snuck in as a part of another program. I located it in Control panel/Programs and tried to uninstall it but after 10 mins or so nothing had happened. Next morning, the popup requesting me to install the updater appeared as usual. I then tried Start/programs and hit the uninstall command. This seems to have been successful. I'll be much more vigilant in the future.
I agree that Google is my best friend and it is always my first point of reference. However, much of the information turned up needs a far more computer-savvy mind than mine happy
