I had the same thing happen to me after an up date on my Windows XP Pro machine.Just by luck I had a machine running Mandrake Linux and I hooked it up to it after a few days of trying to recover any lost data by going through everything that Microsoft sugested and no one had seen this before according to the Techs. It couldnt get to boot so I couldnt restore or set it to last good setting. I ended up reformating with the Linux because it was the only machine that would even recognise the disk. No other windows based system wuold see it.
I was running Nortons also. Am now trying out different ones.

Anybody wanting to get rid of any of those old hard drives that dont work anymore can drop me a line at glpnet@charter.net
