The old Chernobyl did some destructive things like that. What may not come with your IT support is the concept of installing or use of Firewalls. XP without SP2 is wide open to attack and some will not know to close up the gaps. If your team doesn't do this, then you get to experience the fallout.

If the hardware is indeed damaged, then you get to take them up on the warranty. While it may sound terrible, how else will Dell and others learn not to ship ready for the real world PCs?
