I have been an Dealer for Dish for 7 years and I do alot of custom audio/video installations, and to solve this problem, you'd have to get a IR to UHF remote control kit, it's sold by Dish, you may be able to get a free one from Dish, this setup will completely bypass the IR interference and you'll get a better ranging remote control.
