Of COURSE they want to be paid

When MS drops support for a Windows version, it gets dropped. That means the developer team responsible for the updates is reassigned to the next "greatest Windows OS", or maybe to the Office bunch. The idea that you can buy an update for an unsupported version is just not possible. It won't happen! Sorry.

There's another side to this, too. MS HAS in the past thrown an update for a specific version to kill it in order to force you to buy the 'latest' version offered. Not too nice, if you ask me. But, nobody complained because most of us went ahead and bought the next version. Those that didn't had backed-up copies they could reinstall after the bogus update was sent out.

So. you want to continue using XP? Go ahead. Save yourself a couple hundred bucks and enjoy. But be careful!
