I see the supply as an arms race. Ditto with screens CPU's and printers.
Bigger drives mean less housekeeping, higher res' screens, and more powerfully CPUs are advertising driven.
What the vast majority of us actually want are cheaper, simpler, and more reliable computers, not ones that crash, use loads of energy, and are vulnerable to attack. Unless you are a keen photographer, serious gamer, or want to keep 100s of HD movies on your hard drive, 100GB of storage will last a long time.
Give me a sub $150, sub 150W, dual 3GHz CPU, 100GB, & 19" screen, and I will be content for 10 years.
