Hello amythyst2,

Have you bought the laptop with already pre-installed Windows 7? (you can find licence label at the bottom of laptop or below the battery)
If so, try to change used product key withing mentioned on the label:
- open menu Start
- right-click on the Computer and choose Properties
- scroll down to Windows activation and choose Change product key (or any other available option)
You can also activate used Windows by phone (free call, the number should be mentioned there).

To check the Google Chrome availability please navigate to this folder*:

C:\Users\<your_username>\AppData\Local\Google\Chrome\Application\

And run "chrome.exe" (you can also right-click on it and use Pin to Start Menu or Pin to Taskbar to get more easily accessible).
Or follow this article to remove Google Chrome manually before new fresh installation.

* Some folders could be hidden by default Windows settings. To view hidden files and folders please read How To Display Hidden Files And Folders

Please try to install AVG 2012 Free from full installation file from our website (use 2nd or 3rd link based on version of your operating system).

In case of failed installation, please gather any error screenshots, AVG installation logs and MSinfo32 output, upload it in an archive (zip file) to favorite online storage and provide us with link to it, so we can analyze the situation.

Thank you
