about laptop Li-ion battery

Somebody told me Battery for laptop is easy to lose its power, I have to know how to use it to prolong its life. I asked several people how to use/charge the battery. But the answers are different:
1. For first time using battery, it should be charged completely.
2. Keep recharging it as long as you used the battery.
3. Charge it until the battery is used up each time. Because a chip is build in the battery, it will memorizes the used capacity as battery's capacity.
4. If AC power is mainly used for my laptop, the battery should be removed after it is fully recharged. Don't over-charge the battery, it will shorten the life of battery.
I am confused, which way is right?
Please give me some advice.
