I've become so accustomed to standard hard drives, maybe a faster one would still work fine for me. SSD is clearly superior but as you mentioned, there is a price to be paid.
I guess since I am still using a well-loved PC from almost 10 years ago (yet still I've managed to keep up consistently tech wise) going with another spinner isn't that much of a trade off to save $400. In it's absence, may divert additional funds to 6 or 8GB of RAM.
