Samsung HW-D550 Sound Bar
I have this soundbar connected to a Samsung UN46D7000 TV, have experienced the frustration seen here, and have made numerous call to customer support. I finally wrote a letter to the CEO of Samsung North America, and received a call back from a high level customer support group in South Carolina (called "The President's Office") three days later. The rep went through my concerns again, gathered more information, and said she will talk to their Engineering group. She called back the next day and and informed me that they are aware of the problem and are currently working on a firmware update for their TV's to allow the soundbar to turn on when the TV is on, and still be able to control volume with the TV remote. No explanation of how they could be so stupid, but their is some hope for a fix.
