Have you tried resetting the unit by making the disc tray empty, and holding the STOP button until the unit resets?

Also, France = SECAM and UK = PAL, correct?

I'm very limited in assisting people outside of the U.S., but if you have a transaction number from your call to the Samsung offices, I can see if maybe I can forward that over and have someone take a look.
