Samsung LN-T4661FX/XAA; sound but no picture

Hi,
I'm encountering the same issue. I purchased my television two years ago (July 2007) and in the past week the picture has begun to go out. At times, I can turn it off and on several times and cross my fingers that the image will remain. But most times, the picture will either flash on for a second and then the screen goes blank, or the backlight will come on just enough that the screen is a lighter shade of black for a split second. The sound remains. It does not matter what input the tv is on. It sounds like many people are having similar issues.
I called Samsung and they informed me that my 1 year warranty has expired, including the 3 month extension and there is nothing they can do, except forward my complaint on to a authorized service rep. They claim that there are no other complaints in their system so they will not cover the cost to fix the television.
Any suggestions? I assume it is a backlight connectivity issue. I cannot believe that Samsung will not repair their televisions if this is a common defect.
