Bye Bye, H.264? Google open-sources VP8 web video

Too funny --although not unexpected. Google has open-sourced the "VP8" container/codec for royalty-free web video. Now, strange bedfellows Apple and Microsoft have to either get on board the open source train (VP8 instead of patent-encumbered H.264). Google/Mozilla/Opera already going with it, and Adobe will be authoring for it, too:
