Re: Nevermind the title...
You haven't answered the question, concerning the post. For the question that I am concerned, details about me are not neccessary. I can decide on what is best for me upon the information about the carriers. I was asking about the basics of a cell phone account. When I included "in getting" and "account" I suppose that suggests my person. The question that I am making, of interest to anybody getting their first cell phone, is what are the basics of cell phone accounts (and cell phone carriers)? What are the standards of cell phone service charges? Does all of the cell phone carriers require a monthly "Data Plan"? That is my question, please.
For example, I find that on the first inquiry of AT&T that I would get a couple of monthly charges from AT&T: for the cell phone plan and for the DATA service plan.
For example, AT&T breaks down into Family and Individual, and the Individual breaks down into 1) a "plan" (which tiers into 450 mins, 900 mins, and unlimited, 2) "the device" (I haven't looked up very many of the devices, but it seems the monthly rate varies upon the device, 3) "services" (which tiers into DataPlus 300MB, DataPro 3GB, DataPro 5GB).
I would like to keep all of this to a minimum, as I only use a cell phone for a few calls per month. Therefore, I am wondering if there is a carrier that doesn't have the second billing requirement - the DATA plan. Couldn't I just hook up my cell phone with a USB cable to my PC, to upload photos I have shot on it, and do all my internet business on desktop computer - rather than pay for the DATA Plan? And, my iPod touch (which is identical to the iPhone 4 or 4S, except without cell phone capacity and camera) has wifi, which allows me to transfer files on its wifi connection at public hotspots (like Starbucks and McDonalds) - for Free. The Data Plan starts at twenty dollars per month, for a service that is free by wifi or connecting to my PC. This twenty dollars in addition to the minimum monthly charge of thirty-nine ninty-nine for the cell phone plan brings the total monthly bill to sixty dollars per month! Thats for a minimum of everything! (Are American people paying this much for their cell phones?) Is there any carrier that doesn't require the "Data Plan"? (Or all American people rich?)
It would be nice to get a refurbished iPhone 4 as a device, as that way I would have the same stuff as my iPod touch, a cell phone and a camera all on one device. However, sixty dollars per month is too much for that.
