replacing damage cell phone screen

I have a friend who damaged (has colored streaks vertically on part of the screen) the screen on his LG brand U.S. Cellular cell phone.

First is it possible to get a replacement screen for these cell phones at a price that is not cost prohibitive and secondly, do you have to be a rocket scientist or mechanical engineer to replace the screen on one of these phone ?
