Petition: Microsoft put more effort into Windows Phone apps

As most tech geeks know, the Windows Phone app count after 2+ years is still very small (that is pretty much an understatement).

There are many gaping holes on the Windows Phone store that prevent people from switching over to the platform, like Instagram, bank apps, productivity apps, to games that are only popular for a few months (Like draw something). Microsoft and Nokia have been pursuing app developers for a very long time, with Nokia having modest success.

Microsoft has failed in getting app developers on board. Now, a petition has been started. It is not aimed at developers themselves. Rather it's targeted at the company that should be trying to get as many apps as possible. Microsoft. Users shouldn't just hop that they get apps...

This isn't just about getting apps like instagram and temple run, but also about engaging young app developers in markets with high windows phone penetration.

Can't use Windows Phone for our apps.

Our apps use a feature of BlueTooth and Microsoft dropped the feature so we can't use this model.

There's also the issue about apps from other than the MSFT Store and in Windows 8 RT MSFT wants what looks to be 1/3 of the purchase price in their pocket.

-> Microsoft used to have a phone and OS that invited everyone to develop. Today they seem to only want Instagram, Angry Birds and the "big apps."

There is no encouragement for young or old app developers this round.

Here's my vote -> Don't buy Windows Phone or Windows 8 RT machines. Too closed. The hood is welded closed on this ride.

Such a petition is absolutely useless. Nobody can force Microsoft to beef up their application market. Their choice to do so and nothing else. Microsoft is late to the party and they may never catch up with Google or Apple at this point. The main reason for such a slim selection is due to lack of interest by developers and consumers.

They were so close it was not funny.

The problem as I saw it was the cellular carriers. They didn't want the user to control the home screen and MSFT didn't push it. So Windows Mobile was almost a party. Then they threw everyone under the bus for Windows Phone.

So close.
