Moving Overseas and Which Phone???

The more I research the more I am unsure of what to get to work. I am moving in Dubai in a few Months and currently not under contract but am using Sprint.

I am looking at buying an unlocked phone, upgrading my current phone which is POS and or just buying a flip phone with a sim card and using my Ipad and google voice, facetime, and or Skype.

I understand the GSM and CDMA, I understand the capabilities of the phones I am interested in such as the Iphone 4s and 5 and Galaxy S3 as these are the two/three I am interested in but I guess what I am missing are the benefits of having either one in either an ATT/Sprint/International phone?

If I get the CDMA sprint Iphone or S3 and get it unlocked for international travel and then break the contract it is roughtly 400. I hear that you won't get the LTE or 4G or even at times 3G service in dubai with CDMA but it would still work. What are the advantage of buying an international unlocked phone instead of just upgrading and breaking my contract for about a hundred dollars less?
