Why doesn't north america get a larger cell phone selection?

I am wondering why the U.S. does not get near the selection of cell phones as europe, china, korea, etc.? I read alot of tech articles about all these great cell phones and most are never released here in america. Why is that? Our selection here in the U.S. is so narrow and boring.

Lower SAR numbers. More hurdles to get handsets approved. Frankly I've been overseas and was not at all excited by what I saw.

....that GSM carriers allow devices not sold in the US (w/ the correct frequencies) to operate on their networks. That opens many phones not specifically sold by the carriers.

You have a good point, but unlocked phones are quite expensive. But u r right, definately something to think about. Take care.
