Manage updates with the Download App
Hi All
(Samsung Nexus, Android Jelly Beans)
Several apps that I wish to install require outrageous permissions (esppecially those that cost money). I want to block some of those permissions (I understand that this may compromise some of the functionality of the app - I can live with that.).
I've found a few free apps that block some permissions (e.g. location), and an app called "Permissions Denied" that seems to do what I want, but costs $5.00, doesn't have a lite or trial version, and has mixed reviews.
Does anyone know of an app (preferably free) that can do what I want?

If we block an app from doing something and the app that was blocked fails, your average consumer would think this is a bug in Permissions Denied.
For me this is not a bug but how things should work. But then again I've been writing code since long ago and today even on the Androids. How long? Look up the GE-210, CP/M and such.
Get your app and consider that some apps that you block will fail. Nothing broke there!

While there are bound to be those, if you read the negative reviews, you'll see they don't focus on that. They talk about the fact that it slows the phone down, that it prevents the unistallation of apps, that it hangs the phone even though other apps aren't running, that it doesn't actually block some activities even though it says it has, etc.
And yes, it will slow a phone down.

How else would it work as it adds another layer plus apps could retry the failed call?

I also tried LBE Secuirty Guard. What a nightmare! Immediately after installation, it rebooted my phone, and then, no matter what, every time I started the phone (no other apps running), after 10-15 seconds it would re-boot. You can imagine that, with only 10-15 seconds of operating time, it took some deft finger work to get the thing uninstalled. (To go from logging into the phone to app totally uninstalled in 10-15 seconds was no mean feat
