VZW sell your DROID 4GLTE Samsung Charge?

My Verizon DROID 4G LTE Samsung Charge is of course in great condition, however, iI movedon to the VZW DROID 4G LTE Motorola RAZR MAXX just b/c iI lovebuying new mobile phones always. I have been told I would would have to break my contract & whom ever buys would have to get a contract with Verizon Wireless in The United States, is that true?

There are carriers that will flash that phone to their network. In my town, Cricket might do that.
