I wanted an inexpensive smart phone service that had good coverage in the burbs and boondocks. Sprint CDMA service was good and I knew I would have coverage in the building where I worked because my friend with an old Ipaq (I think) used the Sprint CDMA network. The cost however was more than I was willing to pay. I learned about Boost Mobile which is supposed to use Sprint's CDMA network and decided it was a good choice especially because I could return the phone within 30 days. I bought the LG Marque which speced out to be a good choice. My coverage at work in the same chair my friend sits in was nil, even a voice call had poor quality. So my question is:What gives?? Is this really the same Sprint CDMA network using the same cell towers?

I can't compare that MVNO (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mobile_virtual_network_operator ) but I do have a Sprint phone and my son is on Virgin Mobile. Performance is almost identical. If his phone can't connect, neither does mine.

So for Virgin, I think it's the same (yes I know they use the Sprint CDMA system but some want more proof than this.)

Sprint is 80+ a month.
Virgin Mobile is 35 a month.

There are differences in the plans, choice of phones so the discount is because of that difference.

I would try the same phone/service outdoors to see if that also showed similar poor performance. This way you know it's likely to be the network at that particular spot that suffers. If you could also run a side by side with a friend's phone it would be helpful too. Trying your same service/line with another hardware choice helps too to get things right.

While all 3G/4G phones do not perform the same, not getting *any* coverage seems more like the network lacking a little where you need it.

PS why is the space for a subject title so wide in this forum if only half the alloted space can be used???
