Help me design phone system for my new home

I have always had a landline, and used cell phones infrequently when away from home. But the landline is costing more money than it's worth and now that we are moving to Raleigh, NC, it's time to get rid of it.

Just two adults, neither of us text very much. Nor would we use the phone for cruising around the internet (we have laptops and a tablet for that). We will, of course, have high speed wireless internet in our home.

Here's the catch - my husband is hard of hearing. And neither of us want to carry the cell phone around all the time. Is there a phone system that can accept calls from the cell phone for incoming and outgoing calls? I would like to be able to put cordless handsets in most rooms of the house, but not have that blasted landline.

I'm also considering getting majic jack - is there any advantage to that set up versus a cell phone plan that includes both of us. We don't use the phone all that much, but we gotta have it.

VoIP from your ISP might be easier

IME Magic Jack is somewhat unreliable, as are the bluetooth link to cell products. If you want something more reliable that you could use with many more (and less expensive) types of cordless phones that don't degrade voice quality like bluetooth, I would look into the most basic VoIP plans offered by your high speed internet provider. If you don't need long distance, you could probably find even a Verizon or Comcast (examples only) plan for $20/month. There are others such as Ooma that I have had some limited experience with, and seemed to fare a little better than Magic Jack. The up front cost would be higher though, but total yearly cost would likely be less than one of the big fish like Verizon or Comcast.

but how would that VoIP ring onto multiple handsets throughout the house? Both for incoming and outgoing calls.

I'm pretty sure I'm missing some important bit of technical knowledge here, but I learn quickly, so please help?

It's a simple base station with several satellite handsets

Just like a landline, you connect via a single jack to the primary base station. This base station wirelessly transmits the signal to all the satellites simultaneously so they all ring if their ringers are turned on. We normally mute the ones in the bedrooms/kids rooms to reduce noise. Our older Vtech system can handle up to four handsets. My parents have a newer model in their home that handles up to six or eight wireless handsets.

You throw me a little regarding inbound/outbound calling though(?) FWIW, all handsets & base station can facilitate inbound/outbound calling, and can check voice mail.
