Initial Syncing of Samsung SGH-T589R

I am endeavoring to use the "Kies" software provided by Samsung.

The system will not accept my USB connection by stating the following - " Reconnect device in Samsung Kies [PC Studio] mode. Current connection made not suported by Kies.

All I did was download the software, install, and connect my new phone via USB.

HELP !!!!

Reading http://blog.coultard.com/2012/01/how-to-reconnect-in-samsung-kies-pc.html I see something interesting.

It appears the debugging has to be off yet I find many turn that on or root the device. Both choices appear to kill off use of Kies!
