I was overseas and as a test I turned off my mobile radio. It was fine for a few days then something odd happened. The Android cell phone date changed to about 2007.

The theory is that without the cellular network it has no time source to keep the clock accurate. To continue this test I let it alone and nothing else went wonky. Later I had some work to do to change the dates on some photos.

I tried to buy it online w/o a voice plan...

...but was unsuccessful. Either call CS or visit a store. See if they will sell you a device a la carte/unsubsidized, It's pricey though @ $699+. I wonder if it would be even more w/o a plan(?)

Yeah, I agree it'd be cheaper just to do a data/calling plan, but since I'm stuck in a contract already, I'd be paying for 2 cells. Thanks

The Note is only being sold now w/ ATT service. It would not have anything to do wit the Verizon network if you bought now via ATT, or unlocked from another source for that matter. If I understand it correctly, Verizon will eventually get the device as the Galaxy Journal.

Thank you so much, Pepe! I'm referring to the Note - it's smaller and has the stylus for drawing (which the Tb does not AFAIK).
I knew about the Journal coming and that only AT&T has the Note, though an "unlocked Galaxy Note" is sold on Amazon for $683. If I went through AT&T to get it, I'd have to pay for regular cell service plus data on top of my VZW cell service.

AFAIK, the Note and the HTC Flyer are the only devices that offer a good stylus and everything else I listed. If I can't get the Note, I'll go with the Flyer (nice little device, just not as good reviews as the Note).

I am considering a smartphone upgrade in the spring w/ ATT. Ideally it would have the capabilities of the Note. But I am probably too cheap to pull the trigger .
