Clarification request: You need to provide more info
Understand, how can we know w/o knowing your preferences/needs/budget?
Surely, it's a good fit for someone, but not necessarily for everyone.
Let's say your a bachelor. Then a family phone plan might be less suited (depends on the exact conditions, of course, and on your phone behaviour).
Yeah for families..
It's not a bad plan for families and teens who don't need extensive data and app rich phones with high processors and stuff. But for texting/calling and basic internet usage, it's not a bad plan.
Great Plan. Ringtones were a problem but solution discovered
I have had this plan with my wife for over a year. We found it to be the best bargain out there. My only complaint was that although it is using T-Mobile as the carrier you cannot go to the internet and simply download ringtones that are normally supported by T-Mobile. You are stuck with the poor choices that come with the walmart family mobile plan.
However I have finally been successful in being able to upload mp3 created ringtones to the plan. We are using the samsung t139 basic flip phone. Here is solution to ringtone:
Step by Step
How to add ringtones to
Samsung T139 phone
You will be using a couple of websites.
1. Mobile17.com. This is the main site that will actually get the ringtone to your phone.
2. mp3skull.com. This site is a good place to go for finding songs and downloading them free to your computer. (You'll need the song on your computer to make a ringtone out of it.)
3. Zedge.net. This is a great site for finding premade ringtones.
Part 1:Process for making the ringtone using mobile17.
a. Find song and download it to your computer. (note it may already be there in Itunes, or my music folder.)
b. Now go to mobile17 and log in using trotwood100@gmail as the address and friends101 as the password. When you log in you will go to the page called Dashboard.
c. The Dashboard page shows you all the creations you have done as well as being the page from which to launch a new creation.
d. On the Dashboard page, toward the top is a link that says "make your own ringtones" open that link.
e. Now open the link that says "choose file"
f. That link should take you to your music library. It may go to 'sample music' or it may go to itunes. You may have to navigate around to find the right file where your song is saved. Once you get to that file though, the program will usually take you back to that file in the future.
g. Choose your song and when it has appeared in the file name window click "open"
h. The file then loads in the mobile17 window. (what happens now is that the mobile17 program tries to identify the song. It may even give you a list of various artist doing the same song. Ignore all of that and scroll to bottom of page
i. At bottom of page there is a section that says 'manually identify song'. Insert in the title box whatever you would like this song/ringtone to be called. Don't worry about the artist.
j. Then hit continue. The song/ringtone now loads and the page that comes us shows you some editing options that allow you to start the ringtone at any point in the song. You will want the ringtone to be the default 15 seconds in length. If you want to use a portion of the song that is in the middle you will have to adjust the start time of the song. Experiment and use the preview link to make sure you have got what you want.
k. When ready hit continue
l. The next page will show that the default phone this is programmed for is Trots'. Don't worry about that scroll to bottom of page.
m. At the 'when you're ready' section select the button that say 'Do Not sent this file to my phone...'
n. Then hit the continue button.
o. The next page will open and in the middle of the page will be a URL web page link. MB17........
p. Now... go to your phone and open the web feature called web2go
q. When it opens go to 'enter url'. Open that page and carefully enter the URL that was given to you by the mb17 program. You'll need to add the / and . where required.
r. When web to go opens it will show a page that says "mobile17 downloader and a link #1 highlighted. Scroll down to link #3 and then press the "go" button (Ok) on your phone.
s. The phone will now start downloading your ringtone. When it finishes downloading it will automatically save it to your 'sounds' file on your phone that is located in 'fun and appls' section, #1 files, then #1 sounds, then #3 sounds.
t. At this point you will be looking at your newly downloaded ringtone and you can now set it as someones' individual tone etc.
Part two: Process for finding and downloading a song using mp3skull.
a. Open website mp3skull. You should not have to log in.
b. Search for the song you want by entering the title or artist into the search box.
c. Lets say you want the theme from Arthur... Enter Arthur theme and see what you get. In this case you get two options that look good.
d. Now, where the search results are show, under the song you will see four options: download, play, embed and send ringtone.
e. Right click the 'download' option and hit the 'save link as' from the dropdown menu
f. The program automatically opens the location where you usually save your music. If you want to rename the song such as 'ringtone for Brooke' you can do so before you 'save' the file
g. This song is now saved in your music folder and you can now go to part 1 above and use this song for a ringtone.
Part Three: Using Zedge.net to find ringtones and use them
a. Log in if you wish, using trotwood100@gmail as user name and friends101 as password.
b. Be careful. There are so many ads on these pages you can easily get sent to the wrong place. If you find that you have be redirected out of zedge then go back.
c. At the top of the page right by the Zedge logo is their search box. You can search in there or you can look down the left hand margin for themes and topic for different ringtone genres.
d. Lets say you want a ringtone for when your boss calls you. You can enter boss in the search box and you'll start getting a lot of samples.
e. You can play the samples by clicking on the appropriate go arrow, you'll know what I mean.
f. Sample them until you find one you like
g. Lets say you are searching for "boss is calling" you enter that in search and up pops several. Lets choose the first one that shows.
h. At the 'get ringtone' button click it and another window opens. Again hit the get ringtone button and this time a window should open that says 'your almost there'. Now when you get to this point you will right click the download button and hit 'save file as....( the reason you have go to so many steps is that the ringtone is being converted to an mp3 format. If you go to save it too soon it loads in an html format and can't be used by the phone as a ringtone.)
i. Now go to mobile17 and follow steps from part one above. Enjoy
