Intl Coverage, Smartphone, AT&T or Verizon

I am looking for a cell phone that I can also use for PDA (contacts, calendar, messaging, etc.) but it needs to work around the world - Canada, Europe, Asia, South America. Ideally, I'd like to stay with AT&T or Verizon.

I've heard mixed reviewed of smartphones, but that would seem ideal. Any suggestions?

First get a quad-band850/900/1800/1900 phone from a GSM carrier
get it UN locked, then compare ATT/cingular and T-mobile coverage
check out the Treo 600 or 650 and the new quad band blackberrys
Remember it all about the frequesncy but more importantly the roaming agreements carriers have with the in-country carriers
watch out for the per kb data charges when going overseas

FOR THE US I WOULD ALWAYS CHOOSE VERIZON AND NOTHING ELSE.. OTHER PLACES I WOULD CHOOSE T-MOBILE. I WORK FOR VERIZON AND I KNOW WHATS GOOD IN THE US

I would go At&t cause they have world wide roaming and there coverage is very big throught out the USA..

In case you forgot, AT&T Wireless is being bought out by Cingular, so AT&T won't matter anymore. You really need to look at Cingular now rather than AT&T. But in the USA, I would pick Verizon Wireless overall, unless you live in a market that doesn't have Verizon Wireless. As for GSM carriers, I can't recommend one since they all suck in my area.
