unlocking a phone - LG Env3

Hi, I am currently on an at&t family plan. I really like the LG Env3, but do not want to change my service provider as the rest of the family and myself are happy with AT&T. Unfortunately, only Verizon offers the LG Env3. I have read that you can purchase a phone offered by another carrier and unlock it so that it can be used with your current carrier. I see there are some for sale on Ebay and am considering purchasing one there.

Can the LG Env3 phone be unlocked and if so, how does one do that. I only use the phone for phone calls and texting. I don't access internet at all so don't use a data plan. I currently have a LG Vu and really like the phone, but personally not very good at the touch screen qwerty pad. Would be more comfortable on a tactile querty pad.
I assume if I do purchase a phone on ebay, I won't have any warranty to help if I have problems with the phone. Anyone know how that works?

Wrong technology

That handset won't work w/ ATT since Verizon uses a different technology (CDMA/EVDO). You would need a GSM/UMTS handset to use w/ ATT. Try one of the Samsung touch screen phones as an alternative for use w/ ATT. They aren't terrible expensive brand new online. Yesterday they had some for $19.99 as an upgrade price.

i am in the exact same situation. i am going to buy and LG enV3 off ebay and then i am going to unlock it and go to airfire carrier. http://www.wickedunlock.com is a great site to use. But unfortunatly, i was just talking to at&t on the phone yesterday and they said they do not accept unlocked phones or the LG enV3. the only site that does is airfire mobile i belivee. and their coverage isn't the greatest.

the only other service that eccepts this phone is verizon.
