Cell phones forum: Best Cell Phone Sound Quality (phone not service)

Some handsets I've felt adequately loud for everyday use my parents felt were too 'soft' or 'muffled'. I've used the really basic Nokia 2610 (released by ATT) and it seemed like a phone which was (by price) proportionally good in that regard. For non-smartphones I've also liked the Motorola Vx (RAZR variants) for good sound quality, but again, YMMV. My ears are different than yours. Also, the network you are using a particular handset on can make a bit of a difference. Even service from the same carrier can sound a little better or a little worse depending on where exactly you use the handset. In this case, you may not like the way your calls sounds on a RAZR on ATT but like them on Verizon, etc. In this sense you could benefit from stating on which network you plan on using the phone you had in mind.

Personal opinion? Acoustics represent an entire field of scientific study. I agree with the original poster completely. SOMEONE NEEDS TO FOCUS ON THE MAIN OPERATIONAL FUNCTION OF A PHONE: conversations via human voice. Does anyone have any information about cell phone sound quality? Anyone??!!!

Anyone who has studied acoustics should know how to test voice quality reception. It it hasn't been tested, just say so rather than claiming that it cannot be done.

I've had Tracfones, feature phones and smartphones from just about every manufacturer and service. Once I got an iPod Touch 4g, I realized that all I needed was a good phone. Luckily, I found the Doro 410 offered by Consumer Cellular. Head and shoulders above every other cell phone for voice clarity and volume. I never have to use the speakerphone, and you'd never know you were on a cell phone.

I'm still using an ancient flip phone called the Motorola V195s. Consumer Reports and I both agree that it has one of THE best sound quality on any phone out there. Sidenote: it also has the highest amount of radiation, but what can you do?

Still hoping that someone does a study on sound quality because I too rate this as the most important feature in a phone. I'm on my computer all day, so I don't need Internet capabilities!

Like I said, Consumer Reports does a quality rating for sound in their analyses, so it's a start. Unfortunately most of their latest phones have been hovering around the "fair" rating in this category.

All BB models don't sound the same to everyone, nor does a particular network function the same for any one of those BBs either. In this regard, there's nothing significant about my opinion or yours regarding voice quality of a particular handset. Too many variables and subjectivity to be very helpful. Another issue wrench is one person might be so used to the crappy sound of one handset they don't know what they could experience by switching to something else. <shrug>
