Cell Phone Cases, Soft of Hard?

I can't decide what kind of case I want to get for my HTC Fuze. I'm trying to decide between a soft silicone case, or a hard rubberized plastic case. What are the pros and cons of each?

My vote is for a hard case...

And here's why

*More durable

*Will protect your device better

*easy to clean (this is useful...if you ever spill coke all over your phone or something... wink )

on the cons side...

* more expensive (probably)

*less flexible, so it's unlikely anything can be crammed into the case

I'm not so sure that a hard case will protect your phone better. Most of the hard cases I have seen don't protect your phone from a drop on the floor at all. If the case is rigid, you will get little or no shock protection. On the other hand, silicone cases (and some hard cases) usually provide no screen protection, so you'll probably want to add an LCD film protector.

Both types of cases have their advantages. You can get the best of both by using a case that uses hard and soft layers. Otterbox cases have three layers of protection. First is a moisture barrier that most hard or soft cases don't offer. Next is a hard case. The third layer is a soft case. Its a bit bulky but your phone is ready to endure a lot of abuse.

My BlackBerry curve has been in an Otterbox for 7 months. In that time I have dropped it in snow while ice fishing, dropped it on concrete several times and has been exposed to rain. The 'Berry has suffered no damage.

The case kinda homely but I will take an ugly phone that works over a sleek looking, broken phone any day.

Otterbox

While I think the Otterbox is a very good product, it is not available for all phones, including mine. Good looks and durability means very little for those folks who can't purchase a case for their phone.
