Yes, however I agree with others that people making voice calls should be required to go to another part of the plane designated for voice calls. Text msg, checking v/m should also be allowed from the seat. I would also add that all the wonderful sound effects that go with cell phones should be disabled when getting on a plane, including the ringer!! I don't want to listen to 3+ hours of anyone talking about their personal life!!! Not unless they want to include their social security #, mothers maiden name and passwords to bank accounts, etc.

A screaming baby would be preferable!

If no electronic problems for plane, why not?

Cell phones are unregulated on our city buses. If someone's talking too loud, others say something. Noisy babies, loud discussions, etc. are currently handled in that way on planes: why not cells?

Re: concerns about privacy- not wanting to hear others' personal talk, etc.- what about now, with voice? Couldn't we say same things to people as when couple, etc. are both ON the plane now?

We have all been subject to boorish behavior by people on cell phones in restaurants, movies, etc. I really hate to see a heretofore cell free zone go away. However people, we live in a free country which, every day is becoming less and less free due to unnecessary and over-reaching regulations. Let's face it, the problem is not cell phones, it's the jerks that use them. The answer needs to come in somehow teaching courtesy and caring for those around us. Any ideas folks?

People are annoying enough without the added "loud talker", "goo goo couple", "paranoid freak" or whatever other cellphone talker types are going to be going at it in your tiny personal space. I don't want to overhear all that crud.

DOES'NT MATTER IF THE PHONE USER TALK IN WHISPERED VOICE. ALWAYS DISTURBE THE PEACEFULL TRIP OF THE NEXT SIT PERSON. THE FLY IS THE TIME TO RELAX.

Text messaging I think would be fine, except some phone have really loud clicking sounds when they input characters. If those could be muted, then I think it would be fine. But those clickety-click sounds can be more distracting in a way than a quiet conversation on that same cellphone.
Also, in case of emergency, the Captain would always have the right to have passengers cease and desist using their cellphones, if in his view, they are providing a nuisance either to other passengers, or to the operation of the airplane itself.
Common sense and decency should be the rule here, don't you think?

Given the proliferation of inconsideration in use of cell phone is public, use on planes would create captive victims who would be unable to escape to another room.

Please take this from a "road warrior" who does turn the phone back on as soon as the announcement after touchdown allows--cell activity DURING the flight is NOT a good idea. Too many people would believe their "right" equates to a license for rude, inconsiderate behavior. I fly nearly weekly, and I've seen it all. No set of "rules" will ensure a pleasant flight for all passengers, and flight attendants have a difficult enough time taking the hits for ATC & weather delays and other issues totally outside their realm of control . . . people with a dispensation for the inappropriate will not adhere to any gracious admonishment from a flight attendant. Oh, and to say just texting will workdo you know how many passengers push the envelope on every single restriction? I do not want my energy drained by the fights that will ensue or the ceaseless tapity-tap of those who will push this ability to the max. I spend far too many hours in confined quarters at cruise altitude--please do not make incessant chatter a part of this experience.

it's already too noisy on planes. It seems there's nowhere in America a person can have any quiet time. Betweem the smells, the stagnant air, the obligatory drunk and the kid, planes are a like a test you have to get through.

I think they should be allowed, however, rules must be put into place. Like I mentioned in another thread... there are already Airphones, and people can place calls on those all they want.

It needs to be communicated effectively that voice use is for short calls at a reasonable tone. To get the point across more effeciently, perhaps advise people that if they refuse to disconnect the call after two warnings they will be banned from flying with the airline.

It really needs to be a case by case basis.

And, if you really think about it, it's issues like this that point out what is horribly wrong in our nation: a 'me first, screw you all' attitude. No one is considerate anymore, even these jerks on here complaining about loud people on their cell phones. Do you all drive at the speed limit, signal while turning, smile and wave (enzyte guy style), and have never cut anyone off? If you answered YES to all the above questions, you are either a freak of nature, outright lying, or in the worst case of denial I have heard. I talk on the phone all the time while grocery shopping. Many times I'm not even saying anything, and people give me dirty looks. I whisper and people put their noses up in the air. Same people get into their car, open the phone, and damn near kill 3 people getting out of the lot.

So, let the cell phones be used on the plane, vibrate ring only, and short, quiet calls. If you fail to be a considerate human being, they should just tazer your ass and throw you off the plane once it lands.

The rules would be;
1. Respect others and put your phone on vibrate
2. No headsets are needed, you aren't driving
3. Respect others and keep the language clean, at the same time, keep your voice down to a minimum
4. keep calls to under 5 minutes.
5. no Speaker phone

Any violators will have their phone confiscated, and they can be cited for infractions. The citations can be delegated between the FAA and the airline.

The just before Take Off and as Land that alone is amazing how quickly can grab our cells ... more amazing is how others like myself are looking to see if others are complying ... Do You think You can Control this Person on an Emotional Roller Coaster doing the "I Love You More! No I Love You More!"... Better yet is it the Flight Crews resonsibility also? ... Second Scenario People Traveling who do Business ... What if the Business Meeting or Deal Traveling to ... The 1st is Canceled or 2nd Falls through ... Again Don't You think might have an Emotionally Upset Person

For Business People if a Person doesn't understand Your Traveling to Meet Them is why can't contact you ... Then better might think of a different Person or Place to do Business with ... There's a Control issue here ... None of Us are that Important even especially when flying ...
