Nokia N95 on ATT Cingular
by ghg22 - 6/8/07 12:19 PM
Has anybody successfully used the 3G features on ATT Cingular with a Nokia N95 phone?
I want to buy the N95 but have heard that it's not compatible with ATT Cingular's 3G network.

That is another reason why I'm holding off. The current iPhone lacks 3 features that are must-haves for me:
- 3G access
- real GPS
- Bluetooth keyboard (since I really need a moblogging/reporting tool, not just a fancy cameraphone. I need to actually write on this thing, and I detest the iPhone touchscreen keyboard for anything more than a few words.)
It looks like the 1st 2 options are likely for the next iPhone, but I don't know about the keyboard, and I really need that. We'll see. I can hang in there and wait for that, or to see if Nokia broaden slocal retail availability and service for the N95 (or offer it for the N96). Or to see if some other provider wisens up to this kind of high-end market.

can you use the GPS freely(i'm sure you have to have a data plan as well) or do you have to pay for a seperate plan to use the GPS only. Because i got a new phone but have to pay for a plan to use the GPS. Also how fast is the load of the maps?
Yes, you can use the GPS freely to see your current location.
1.) If you dont want to use your data plan, download the maps ahead of time with Nokia's Map Loader.
2.) If you want door to door directions, you must subscribe to a service.
NOTE: Google Maps for your mobile (http://www.google.com/gmm) is a great alternative.
yea i have google maps on my blackjack but it doesn't exactly pinpoint my location, it approximates. Yet for directions and turn by turn i need a service. Though it doesn't give you turn by turn, does the cursor or point on the phone to describe you move while you are moving or phone rather?
I am a huge fan of Nokia and thinking of getting the n82 just cause its smaller and nearly has everything the N95 has. But nokia is coming out with a touchscreen phone which looks great.
SETTINGS / PLS HELP
As per Nokia, in order to setp up the initial configurations, we need to follow this site, http://www.nokiausa.com/A4410019.
On the phone press the Menu key.
Scroll to and select Tools.
Scroll to and select Sett. wizard to launch the Nokia Settings Wizard.
Scroll to and select Operator.
Follow the wizard's on screen steps to automatically configure the phone with the required operator service settings.
Repeat steps 1 to 3 of the Settings Check above to verify that the settings are now working correctly.
BUT FOR ME UNDER SETT.WIZARD ONLY ONE OTION AND ITS EMAIL SETTING.
