Has anybody successfully used the 3G features on ATT Cingular with a Nokia N95 phone?
I want to buy the N95 but have heard that it's not compatible with ATT Cingular's 3G network.

The International edition comes in two color options, one with the plum the other with a gold(ish) color. And yes, the other versions have a black back. The 8GB version is black all over.

my n95 8gb had the all-black finish. it was stolen. the thief couldn't use my cell phone; because it has great security features, and cingular/at&t never sold that nokia model. i replaced it with a red n95-3 which has all the same features as the n95 8gb, but 6gb less memory with an approximate $250.00 lower price tag.
i'm partial to nokia cell phones after having worked with cingular wireless before retiring. both n95's more than met my needs; however, the all-black far more gorgeous than any of the other colors...aesthetically speaking. it's a masterpiece!

Actually i just realized that you posted this a while ago
But it looks like you have the N95-2 which works on overseas 3G networks, not the lovely North American 3G networks which are on a different frequency...
You probably want the N95-4 which is 8gig NA model

China Doesnt Lock there phones. In fact I believe there are only a handful of countries that actually do lock their phone. US happens to be one of them. But to my knowledge. The N95 was never tied to any carrier (hense never locked).
As far as no service. Check in your phone's network settings to see if its setup for dual networks. I made a post last week on how to check that. Let me know how that works out.

I just bought a Nokia N95 but where ever i go, i never get service. Can anyone help?
Sorry to hear you are having problems. I cant guess what problem you are having. Ive never heard of anyone not getting any service on their N95. Something you could do, is try your sim in a different phone, and try a different sim, borrow someone's, and put it in your phone. Other than that, its hard to troubleshoot your problem with what little info you have given.

Well i bought the phone in china.
Here's a question, at the top to the right of the Time, do you see where it says AT&T?
Also go into Settings, Phone, the Network.
My phone is in Dual mode & Automatic Operator Selection. If those arent set up, it could be the reason you are having trouble.

I am willing to bet if you bought the phone in China it lacks either the 850mhz or 1900mhz frequencies or possibly both. Most Nokia phones are designed to work in different parts of the world. Typically there are American, European or Asian models and each model supports different cellular frequencies.
One thing you can check is your model and code.
Post that here and I can scower the internet to see if your phone is US compatible.
Note: If you are wanting to use the N95 on a US 3G network, ONLY the US N95 (N95-3) works on the 3G networks.

Ok...my model is N95_1 or N95-1. (cant tell)
code is 0664407
It figures that I cant find that particular code easily. One thing I will ask is what firmware are you running? To find out type *#0000# on your phone. Everything on the first line is your version. Last I checked the latest version is V 20.0.015. If you have anything below that, it maybe time to upgrade the firmware on the phone. Post to let me know what version you have, and we will work from there.
well i tried that before and it said not connection...I get service in one place in my whole town. So when i go there i will check
You shouldnt need a signal to be able to enter *#0000#. In fact, If it gives you a problem, just take out the sim and power up the phone that way to get the info.
Everytime i type in *#0000# it says language default...after i type that in i call it right?if so. thats what i did.
Typing *#0000# should bring up the version info WITHOUT having to press send. I find it very odd that your phone DOESNT give you the version info when you type that in. Are you pressing anything else before you type that in?

Go into Tools, Settings, General, Personalisation, then Language. Since you mentioned the Language thing, I would suggest Changing your "Phone Language" and "Writing Language" to english. Not sure if this will help, but just find it odd you are seeeing the error you are seeing.

Firmware update bricked my N95-3

I was very excited last week to receive and start learning to use my Nokia 95-3, which worked very well (no trouble at all) on AT&T's 3G network.
The problem was, just as I started to fall in love with this excellent moblogging tool, I had to do a firmware update to utilize the Share on Ovi service that came with the phone.
I found a windows laptop (I'm a mac person, and Nokia's update software is windows only), installed Nokia's software updater, and ran the update correctly.
My expensive phone is now a brick. Immediately after the firmware upgrade, it would not start at all.
Since I bought it from Amazon (not Nokia), Nokia will not guarantee to repair or replace it for free.
So, sadly, I'm returning the phone, carrying case, and bluetooth keyboard today. I'll wait and see what the future brings, but for now I'll settle for a prepaid tracfone until technology and service catches up with my minimum requirements.
If you happen to live in NYC or Chicago, the only cities currently with Nokia stores, then you have the luxury of walking in and requesting an immediate replacement. I don't -- and waiting for Nokia's process might leave me with a new bill and a lack of time to get a refund for the brick.
I might consider getting an N95 or N96 in the future, but only if I could get it from local seller.

It is unfortunate to hear what happened to you. At the same time, you shouldnt let one bad apple ruin the bunch. Many things can go wrong that can cause the phone not to work. Especially during a firmware update. If anything, you should give it a second try. To each their own. And Buyer beware!
Nothing is Perfect.
Well, unfortunately I didn't have the option to try again

USMC-guy,
I understand what you're saying, and I don't give up easily. I would have given Nokia a chance to repair/replace the phone if I could. However, since I bought it through Amazon (not Nokia), Nokia wouldn't guarantee that they'd repair/replace it for free -- and they said turnaround time was 10-14 business days.
Meanwhile, through Amazon I had only 30 calendar days to return the phone for a refund. And I only had 30 days to cancel my 2-year AT&T contract. And only 15 days to return the keyboard.
My options were: Take a chance on trusting Nokia to do the right thing, not charge me to repair/replace the unit, and get it back to me in time that I could finish putting it through its paces -- or quit now and send everything back.
It's a big chunk of change, at least for me. I couldn't risk being stuck with such a huge bill for a brick. So I bailed.
Later on, if the Nokia N95 (or forthcoming N96) is available in local retail stores where replacement isn't such a lengthy, risky process, I'd be happy to try again. But right now the N95 is only available in Chicago and NYC (the only Nokia US stores). It's not in carriers' stores yet.
Believe me, I really wanted this phone do work and I don't give up easily. This was a hard choice.

To be honest with ya, I love my N95. Ive had it since the day it was released.
However,.....
I am a Apple fanatic. I read apple new threads everyday. I am actually waiting for this June to get the 3G iPhone. Even though the N95 has lots of features, it has more than necessary. The present iPhone has great potential. The upcoming "RUMORS" I hear about the soon to be 3G iPhone makes me want it more.
If I can make a suggestion to you, take your money and wait until June. If you need a phone, get a cheapo or something until then. Once they release the info on the new 3G iPhone, make your choice.
I love my N95, but the Mac in me wants the iPhone.
