Why can't people hear me speaking?

Yesterday I purchased my first Bluetooth enabled cell phone. I have never even used a Bluetooth phone before so this question might just be showing my ignorance.

Also purchased a Bluetooth headset to go with the cell phone. The cell phone is an LG VX8300 and the Bluetooth headset is a Jabra BT135.

Anyway, I have found that if someone calls me, I can hear them speaking and they can hear me. Works great, everything is fine.

However, if I call someone with the cell phone, then I've found that I can hear them, but they can NOT hear me.

Why is that?
