Japanese cell phone in USA

okay, im not that big of an expert on cell phones. but here is what i wish to do. im here in tokyo for the summer, id like to bring back a phone to the states. i have a sprint account there and im wondering if its possible to purchase a phone in japan and use it back in the states? if so, what kind of phone can i purchase? would i have to change anything?

You cannot use phones from other countries on sprint. Notice that the phones in Japan use sim cards. Sprint does not use sim cards. You want a phone from overseas, you better switch to cingular or t-mobile when you get back. Too bad,so sad!!

Don't be confused by tri-band phones which operate at both U.S. frequencies but only at one of the international frequencies -- that won't be as useful. On the other hand, if you have the option of a quad-band cell phone, one that supports 850, 900, 1800, and 1900 MHz, you'll have all your bases covered."
