Verizon too skimpy on text messages.

My text message plan with verizon wireless is about to expire. Right now I have unlimited text messaging but come December I'm going to have to go with their packages because they will not renew the unlimited. The most they have is 500. I routinely use 2500-3000 and at .10 cents each that is going to get pretty pricey. I'm trying to decide if its worth it to cancel (the rest of my contract isn't up for another year) and go to t-mobile even though I've heard bad things about their coverage/reception. I use more text messaging than anything else. I hate how Verizon nickels and dimes you for every little thing.
Also, I'm on a family plan. If I cancel I would prefer to cancel all of them. Would I have to pay the 175.00 cancellation fee for each phone/number on the family plan (I have 4) or is the entire plan covered under the 175.00?
