stolen cell phone--do they have access to my numbers?

My phone was stolen and I was wondering if they still have access to my phone directory even though I discontinued the service. It was a Samsung e316 with a SIM card under an AT&T contract. I know whenever I buy a new phone, I can still get into my old phone's number directory as long as it's charged, even if it has no service. I've had 2 different phone reps tell me different things...one said yes, they have access to my phone book, and the other one told me no they don't. Does anyone know???

Unless you used the security lock in your phone, your phonebook can be accessed even if your acct is cancelled.

To put it simply, yes they have acess to your numbers. The only way they wouldn't is if you had some sort of security pin that takes effect when you turn off the phone. If that is the case than the phone will lock its when the wrong pin is entered 'x' number of times.

Stolen AT&T phone--can they get service on it?

It was an AT&T phone so will they be able to get service on it or a recharger if they decide to try to use it (since AT&T was absorbed by Cingular)? Once the battery dies, I'm hoping they'll think it's useless to them (I had no security pin).

...However be sure to notify your carrier(ATT) and get a written confirmation that they have been notified. Otherwise, you are responsible for any calls that occur on that phone!
