Jeep Grand Cherokee dash query

I recently purchased a Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited 4 litre petrol 1996 model. Does anybody know what the square button on the dash, left hand side of the steering wheel does? It has a white border and a 'D' in the centre, the same as the 'D' on the gear selector. It has 'OFF' printed below the button, and it's a push button. When pushed on, a green light comes on. The reason I ask is that I don't have an owners handbook. If anybody does, give me a shout.

So, can anyone help?
