97 Honda Pilot - iPhone connection

Here's the problem. I have a 97 Honda Pilot w/ the stock stereo and DVD player. The CD player does not work any more but everything other than that works fine with the stereo and I can play CDs on the DVD. What I want is to be able to hook up my iPhone to the car stereo. Does anyone know if I can upgrade the stereo and keep the stock DVD player and gain the iPhone hook up. Or is there a cheap connector I can get to keep the old radio and still get the iPhone connector that is worth the money. I have tried the transmitter type and have not been happy.

Ok, if you actually own a honda pilot from 1997 then you're kinda special. And if you check the history of the pilot there is no 1997 pilot so technically there is no point of putting this up.
