'99 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo jumper cables hooked backward

My jeep was being jumped and the cables were connected backwards. It will crank but not catch. have used starting fluid and will catch but won't stay running. Are there specific problems to check first?

You may need to reset the ECM (ELectronic Control Module). Try disconnecting the battery completely from the car for a minimum of 30 seconds, then reconnect and try it again.

Thanks for the response. I was checking fuses under the hood and all it actually turned out to be was the 10 amp fuse for the PCM. How crazy is that?
