Car Tech forum: Poll: Do you like the idea of having a black box in your car and why?

What's your point?? Having a black box would not be able to find the driver of the other car.

For years now lorries have had a TACHO or spy in the cab as it was called at the time, but the lorry drivers got use to it. Now if a black box is fitted to all cars and the driver was in an accident then the police etc. can see if you WAS SPEEDING.... Not only that side but cars that have the box fitted could bring down the car insurance premiums DOWN !!!! Some people have said it will put the insurance premiums up, if you a good driver and not had an accident your insurer will see that. my last say on this is .... IT WILL STOP THE BOY RACERS WITH THERE GTI'S SPEEDING and COMPANY BOSSES saying I'M LATE FOR A MEETING... Bring on the BLACK BOX !!!!

Let face it, at times we're all not the "best" drivers in the world. After traffic situations arise, there may be legal responsibilities that have to be dealt with. In an incident - in light of direct and incontrovertible facts that's not are not in dispute - (yeah, like that happens in most legal cases..!) - this black box would provide invaluable data in determining hardcore facts and factors that lead up to, and were involved in, these kind of driving situations. Somewhat analogous to aircraft black boxes, I don't think the information contained such technologies should (generally) be made available to just anyone under any circumstances. Overall privacy safeguards have to be built into the system so that not just anyone can access the information contained in such black boxes. If people want to voluntarily give up that information, (for example), to gain certain things - such as in Progressive's SnapShot program - that's their business. Otherwise, this information, (somewhat like medical information is now), should remain private unless a vehicle owner/user voluntarily signs that right away and gives it up. In other words - no one other than the owner of a vehicle should be able to get/give access to this information or be allowed to have it with the exception of the legal system. (And that would be only because - again generally speaking - a vehicle owner can and/or may be held legally responsible for a vehicle's use in this country, so in such cases, a valid court order would have to be given for access to this information).

No on the black box question. There is already too much government interference in our lives. I don't want any more. This is supposed to be a "free" country. What happened? I don't think this is what Washington, Jefferson, and the rest of our Founding Fathers wanted and this is NOT what I want.
